Western Saddle does not have holes in the cinch strap...punching them in?

I just got this western saddle that is kinda old and hasn't been used in a while. I noticed that the leather cinch strap on the saddle (like I guess the part that the cinch would hook to) was probably I guess missing or broken at one time (the one on the left side) so the people must have replaced it with a nylon strap. But the nylon strap doesn't have holes in it. On the right side the cinch strap has holes in it and they are like 1-2 inches apart but I know the left side holes are usually spaced farther apart. So I was going to punch holes in it but I don't know how far apart to punch them. How far apart are the holes on the left side of the cinch strap (part cinch hooks to) on the western saddle???
